Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari CON, Embraces the New Year with a Vision for Sustainable Development and Food Security**
Senator Abubakar Kyari CON, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, sends his heartfelt New Year greetings to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“As we welcome the New Year, I extend my warmest wishes for a prosperous and rewarding 2025. May this year provide you with the strength and wisdom needed to lead our great nation.”
“We will continue to support your efforts to strive for unity, progress, and the betterment of all citizens.”
Senator Kyari also conveys his best wishes for the New Year to Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, GCON:
“I pray that Almighty Allah continues to grant you the strength and wisdom necessary to support our beloved leader, President Bola Tinubu, in your role as Vice President.”
To all citizens and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, Senator Kyari emphasizes that this year represents a new chapter filled with opportunities, growth, and a renewed commitment to enhancing food security, supporting farmers, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices throughout Nigeria.
Senator Abubakar Kyari acknowledged that while the past year has witnessed significant achievements, challenges remain.
“As we enter this new year, our dedication to ensuring food security and sustainability is more resolute than ever. We must unite—government, farmers, and all stakeholders—to establish a resilient agricultural sector capable of overcoming the pressures of climate change and meeting global demands,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to introduce several new initiatives in 2025, including:
1. **Enhanced Support for Farmers:** Strengthening programs aimed at smallholder farmers to improve their access to resources, technology, and funding through increased financial assistance and training opportunities.
2. **Promotion of Eco-Friendly Farming Practices:** Launching initiatives that encourage sustainable farming methods and providing advanced equipment to enhance agricultural productivity.
3. **Improvement of Food Distribution Systems:** Sustaining efforts to ensure that vulnerable communities have access to nutritious food through diverse community programs.
4- Deployment of Tractors and Heavy Equipment**
Tractors and other heavy-duty machinery will be distributed nationwide to aid farmers in increasing their cultivated land.
5- Smart Agriculture
A new initiative aimed at supporting greenhouse farming will be launched, promoting family garden projects.
The Minister emphasized that the Ministry will promote private sector involvement in the federal government’s food security program.
“Our goal is to create a scenario where financial institutions show interest in funding agriculture, enabling both smallholder farmers and large investors to access credit to enhance their production.”
